5 ways to get in the holiday spirit this weekend in Ashland!
The holidays are a time for family and friends to come together and create memories. And while some people may think that the holidays are all about the gifts, we know that they're really about giving your loved ones the chance to spend time together.
That's why we've put together some fun activities you can do with your family this weekend in Ashland, KY!
#1 See the winter wonderland of lights
Featuring over 30 unique light displays, the Winter Wonderland of Lights display at Central Park is a must-see. There are plenty of spots to park (free!) so you can enter from either side of the park before heading out on foot to take in the awe and wonder of the light displays. We recommend bundling up in your warm winter gear and grabbing a hot chocolate for extra safety measures to keep you comfortable during your tour. The loop around the display is about one-mile, so plan your outfit accordingly. If the weather does not permit walking, you can hop behind the wheel for an adventure through this magical world! Be sure to drive around the park, and through the middle to take in all the beautiful displays.
#2 Attend A christmas play at the paramount
This one is for the kids! If you've got a little one who still isn't sure about all this "Christmas" business, Israel Horovitz's adaptation of Dickens' classic should do the trick to get them in the spirit. Presented by our very own local performing arts group, The Paramount Players, this Christmas classic directed by Rick Payne is sure to be a good time for all ages. You have three opportunities to see the show over the weekend. Tickets can be purchased in advance here, or in person at the box office.
#3 Take a train ride around central park
Winter Wonderland Express train rides are a great way to get kids out of the house and into the holiday spirit. Not only is it fun for them, but it's also a great way to get some fresh air and see the Winter Wonderland of Lights display. Train rides will be available Friday, December 16th through Tuesday, December 20th from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. Train rides that take place on December 19th and 20th will feature Santa as the conductor! This is sure to create a memorable holiday experience for your little ones. Tickets to ride the train are $4 per person.
#4 Try the Nativity Escape room
If you’re looking for a unique and fun team-building experience, look no further than the Nativity Escape Room! Located inside Legacy Ashland, this game is designed to try and solve the mysteries of Jesus' birth. Each mystery is unique, and while this game is open to all ages, some parts may require adult guidance.
The recommended group size for this activity is between 5-8 people, however other group sizes can be accommodated. This is a one-time event opportunity that takes place on Friday, December 16th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. This event is free and all are welcome!
#Plan a romantic Christmas date night
Get in the spirit with award-winning Christian singer, songwriter and worship leader, David Phelps. This weekend he will perform his latest Christmas production at the historic Paramount Arts Center. Make it a holiday date night to remember with dinner Downtown before the show. If you need help deciding where to eat, check out our blog on go to foodie spots walking distance to the Paramount.
The show takes place on Sunday, December 18 at 7:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased here, or at the box office while quantities last.
